FAQ
Clear answers before you download.
Formats, privacy, checks, purchases and the details in between.
Offline and privacy
Does RedactRoom work offline?
Yes, for redaction. Your files are processed on your device, without uploads. Purchases and restores are handled by Apple through the App Store and require an internet connection.
Does RedactRoom upload my files?
Your files are processed on your device, and RedactRoom has no server for document processing. A clean copy leaves the app when you choose an output action such as Save, Copy or Share. The destination you choose may use the internet.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no RedactRoom account or sign-in. Apple handles purchases through your App Store account.
Does the app collect analytics?
RedactRoom has no analytics, advertising or tracking code and no third-party SDKs. If you share crash reports with developers in your device settings, Apple may pass them on under Apple's policy.
What does RedactRoom store?
Preference sets, terms, patterns, the free-export count and purchase status are stored on the device. A review is kept only if you choose Keep, for up to 24 hours. The privacy policy explains storage and temporary files in more detail.
Detection and review
Will it find every sensitive detail?
No. Suggestions can miss details. Review the source and the clean copy, and add a manual area wherever needed.
What does it look for?
The app's Help section, What RedactRoom checks, pairs each category with what it looks for and what it can miss. You can choose categories and add your own terms. The suggestions do not replace your review.
Does it detect faces?
Face suggestions are not available in this version. Add a manual area around any face you want to remove.
Which languages does it cover?
Language coverage is limited to English. Review German, Dutch and other languages yourself.
Can a covered area be uncovered?
Covers are solid blocks in a newly built file, with no layer to remove. A block's size can still show roughly how long the covered text was. Nearby context can also reveal information.
Does it remove photo location data?
Yes. Location, camera details and capture dates are removed from images, and the copy is read back to check it.
What does the export receipt prove?
This receipt describes export checks. Detection can miss sensitive details. The receipt doesn't confirm that a file was saved or shared.
Formats
What can I open?
Screenshots and photos, multi-page PDFs, and plain text, including logs. The text workspace also provides options for structured JSON and CSV.
Is the clean PDF searchable?
The clean PDF is rebuilt from the covered page images. Searchable text, links, forms and accessibility structure are not preserved.
Can I review several images together?
Yes. You can review images as a batch. Each exported image uses one free export; a batch is not counted as a single export.
Price and purchase
How much does it cost?
Five free exports on each device, then US$14.99 once for unlimited exports. No subscription. 1.x updates are included.
What counts as a free export?
An image or text review uses one free export. A PDF review uses one, regardless of page count. A batch uses one per image. Failed or cancelled exports don't count. Exporting again from a counted review doesn't use another.
Do the free exports expire?
There is no time limit. Reviewing and editing remain available. The example in the app doesn't use a free export.
How do I restore a purchase or request a refund?
Choose Restore purchase in the app while signed in to the same App Store account. Restoring requires an internet connection. Refund requests are handled by Apple.
Availability
Where will RedactRoom be available?
RedactRoom is for Mac, iPhone and iPad, with a US App Store launch. It is not available for Windows, Android or Linux. The Download button opens the App Store listing once it is live.
