Choose the right toolfor what you share.
A drawn box can be enough. Here is when a redaction workflow earns its place—and when another tool is a better fit.
Image markup
Quick for a detail you already spotted. Output and metadata handling depend on the tool.
Blur or pixelation
Obscures pixels. Short or predictable values can sometimes still be inferred.
A PDF shape
A drawn rectangle may leave source text selectable underneath. Use a dedicated redact operation.
RedactRoom
Review suggestions, use solid covers, generate a new copy and inspect its export checks.
The mechanism matters.
Project note
The useful context stays.
- Contact
- Task
- Review the handover notes
- How is content covered?
A shape, blur and a generated copy behave differently. Inspect the exported result rather than relying on how it looks in the editor.
- What stays in a PDF?
RedactRoom rebuilds from covered page images. It does not preserve searchable text, links, forms or accessibility structure.
- What did the tool check?
Read the check results and limits. A receipt of export checks is not proof that every detail was found.
Sometimes, usesomething else.
- Searchable legal PDFs
Choose a dedicated PDF redaction tool when searchable output or a formal disclosure workflow is required.
- Faces and video
RedactRoom does not suggest faces or process video. You can cover faces manually in an image.
- Other platforms or languages
RedactRoom is for Apple devices. Language coverage is limited to English.
